A simply perfect Christening…

We recently had the pleasure of hosting two of our favourite regulars Sarah and Terry, for the Christening of their gorgeous son Oliver. This is what Sarah had to say…

“A massive thanks to Colin, Pat, Tom and the team!

We have just celebrated our sons’ christening with you in the private dining room and it was a simply perfect, a personable experience from start to finish. Gentle advice was offered on my guests’ expectations during the preparation stage but no hard selling (which is all too common, and really annoys me these days.) We’d shopped about in town but all the other venues seemed to have a room hire added to the bill, also we loved the fact that The Star has a private balcony – and being in August with the possibility of some sunshine, this seemed the best all round!

They listened to what we wanted and the kitchen team were more than happy to tailor a buffet to our tastes and budget. I was very impressed by the flexibility and skill – you could say Tom in the kitchen ‘saved the day’ in relation to our four tiered naked cake…

It was an important day for me in particular, as it marked the end of a long 18 months of being sober and an end to a strict diet (to fit into a posh frock for the day). The day meant I could relax, eat cake and drink bubbles with our friends and family – so when our cake arrived from a lovely friend looking like it was ‘half baked’, I was distraught. Chef Tom took one look at it, smiled and reassured me he could rescue it. And he did- in fact it was better than I thought possible. All our guests were amazed by the food, the cake, the venue, and the friendliness of the team. From start to finish the management of our booking was handled in a professional and friendly way. Pat even helped us blow the balloons up and decorate the room before hand – not expected – and again it felt like they were going the extra mile for us.  So thank you Star & Garter, even though the day was solely about my son and he won’t remember it, we will never ever forget it.
